Secrets of French Lop Rabbits

French lops live for a total life span of 5 years or more. The French Lop is the largest type of lop. Their main characteristics are their heavy, wide body shape and large round heads. Their ears can range between 30 to 38 cm. These maybe short compared to the English Lop ears. Besides that they are the largest type of Lop with its large head and oversized body. They can weigh at least 4.5 kg, this is fairly heavy compared to the other type of Lop rabbits. Between 5-12 months, French Lop rabbits can create large amounts of litter.

French Lop must follow an organized feeding habit. They must have a well balanced mix of dry rabbit food, which will contain all the nutrition required for a healthy rabbit. Rabbits have a delicate stomach so try your best to not feed them anything else that is not rabbit food, such as fruits, and fried food. If they eat too much it can cause diarrhea and that is not healthy. It is best to use earthenware bowls to feed rabbits with, these bowls are more balanced and is hard for them to knock the earthenware bowl over. These beat plastic and paper plates because they are easy to chew on and easy to knock over. Earthenware Bowls are hard and are not chewable. It's best to use a water bottle with a tube so the water stays fresh and not contaminated. It can be contaminated if the water is in a bowl inside the cage which allows it to be exposed to everything around it.

Living conditions for the French Lop rabbit is very important; if it was to live outdoors, it should have a wooden hutch that is made out of hard wood with a water proof roof. The roof can be made out of plastic, and the hutch should be raised from the ground. If the rabbit is living indoors, the hutch or a cage can be used. The cage should have a wire based threading and the cage should have an exercise area, either outdoors or somewhere in the house. Wood shavings should be best for a rabbit, seeing how if saw dust were to enter the eye it will cause irritation, try to avoid this from happening. Bedding should be required weather indoors or outdoors. The cage or hutch should be cleaned out weekly and any left over foods should be removed. Your house should be clean as possible if your rabbit is allowed to run around the house.

Toys are needed for rabbits to play on and with. They need things to climb on, crawl through, chew on, and play with. Toys can be made with house hold item, such as boxes and toilet roll tubes and boxes. The boxes can be cut to make holes to crawl through and run through. If you have another rabbit, they will enjoy playing with each other very much, so they do not get lonely by themselves.

Thus, lop rabbits are very easy to take care of. All they need is a good place to live in and healthy food to survive on. They are not as expensive as a dog, which means its not that expensive for a family household to afford, and take care of. French Lop rabbits are very gentle and caring creatures. Please do not abuse animals, its just cruel seeing what some people do to them.
